Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Preparation, administration and maintenance of the Company’s financial statements, including, but not limited to the trial balance, balance sheet, income statement and other financial statements and reports in accordance with the International Financial Reporting Standards

- Oversee the continued development of programmes, and its institutional presence within Africa, and beyond.
- Provide leadership, direction, and technical support to programme managers.

Qualifications
- Advanced degree in science, technology, engineering, maths (STEM) and/or the social sciences (MA required, PhD preferred).
- At least five years of experience working in a substantively similar role in a relevant professional context such as a non-profit/NGO, research institution, development agency, consultancy, or think tank.

Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Lead

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic planning
- Evidence-based strategy development processes, including programme design, theory of change and programme logical framework, incorporated as relevant in fundraising proposals; updated as needed on the basis of emerging evidence.
- Facilitate the development and implementation of strategic planning, monitoring, evaluation and learning frameworks, approaches, and annual plans with programme leadership, staff and partners.
- Lead the development and maintenance of organizational results framework, ensuring alignment with programme results frameworks and monitoring processes; develop annual results reports and/or other related products.

- Ensure the timely collection of M&E data (according to the tools and written reporting procedures).

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

- Project management of the ILEx custom website build; including hiring and management of consultants to complete required specialist tasks

Strategic Partnerships Lead
Project Management
As part of the organization’s 5-year strategic plan from 2023 – 2026, The Institute will be investing in strategic partnerships to increase the influence of the research work done by early career African women researchers in its network. The proposed Strategic Partnerships Lead will work closely with the Board’s Programmes and Impact Committee (PIC), Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Director of Programmes (DoP) to ensure that the “Big Ideas” and voices of early career African women researchers are heard in places where impact work and solutions are developed to address critical issues on the continent and beyond.
Specifically, an outcome driven approach anchored in the organization’s 4-year strategic plan, and supported by the theory of change, log-frame and Fellows/Alumni commitments to action (C2A), will be used in identifying and securing the strategic partnerships. Potential partners will include communication and media partners, development partners, industry players, research and innovation partners, government and policy makers, universities, and donors and funders. Examples of desired outcomes are, public dissemination of Fellows/Alumni ideas through public engagement and communication partnerships, adoption and implementation of evidence generated by Fellows/Alumni through policy engagement, and adoption and implementation of Fellows/Alumni evidence-based innovations through placements and pilot projects.
The Strategic Partnerships Lead will report directly to the Director of Programmes and will be supported by Fellowship Programme team leads and associates, who will help in meeting programmatic goals. The lead will:
Programme Design
- Design and deliver a strategic partnerships framework to guide the process of identifying, forming and maintaining strategic partnerships.
- Create supporting tools and materials for managing strategic partnerships within the institute’s Connects Network at local, regional and global levels.
- Develop a workstream for yearly strategic partnerships that will help meet the organization’s strategic goals, with key objectives and expected results to guide implementation of the Institute’s Connects Network.
- Assess Fellows/Alumni Commitments to Action (C2A) and identify actionable priorities and areas of partnership/activities to achieve the organization’s strategic outcomes.
- Develop a matching framework that identifies potential partners and matches them to Fellows/Alumni C2A outcomes.
- Support in partnership design and re-design to suit the Institute’s Connects Network and Fellows/Alumni changing and emerging needs.
- With the support of the Research and Analytics Lead, conduct market research and analysis to identify potential partners, including communication and media partners, development partners, industry players, research and innovation partners, government and policy makers, universities, and donors and funders.
Programme Management - Oversee implementation of the strategic partnership’s framework, working closely with Team members across the Institute
- Develop a yearly work plan for implementing the workstream, working closely with all team leads to ensure long-term success and ensuring alignment with the broader Fellowship and Voices work plans.
- Oversee all projects in the work plan with strategic partners.
- Lead delivery of expected outcomes, and working closely with the MEL team to track indicators of progress and success, as well as partner metrics.

Voices Programme Lead
Media / Advertising / Branding
Key Responsibilities
This position will lead on all the Institute’s Voices Programme activities. They will report to the Director of Programmes (DoP). This position includes but is not limited to the following duties:
Programme Leadership and Strategy:
- Lead and manage the Institute’s Voices Programme, ensuring its successful implementation in alignment with the Institute’s strategic goals.
- Lead on developing and steering the Programme’s strategy in partnership with the DoP, using thoughtfulness, creativity and out-of-the-box thinking to identify ways to improve the programme to better serve the women in our network.
- Ensure that all the programme’s activities and partnerships are genuinely inclusive, informed by and representative of the diverse voices of African women researchers from different regions disciplines and sectors.
Public and Policy Engagement:
- Design, plan and execute all the Institute’s Ideas outputs (Podcast, Nights, Exchanges, CoLabs, Digest) that provide visibility, networking and learning opportunities for the women we serve.
Provide support to our Communications Team to create influencing opportunities through the public visibility of the women we support via traditional and digital media (blogs, articles, TV appearances, op-eds). - Utilise the above approaches (the Institute’s Ideas outputs, traditional and digital media) and develop new ones for the Institute’s to influence the broader research ecosystem.
- Provide support to the MEL Lead with evaluating the effectiveness of the programme’s engagement strategies and making data-driven decisions to improve them.
Strategic Partnerships:
- Provide support to our Strategic Partnerships Lead to identify opportunities for meaningful and impactful connection creation between the women in our network and our partners creating influential research translation pipelines and pathways (e.g., connecting them to policy makers, commercialisation actors, and development organisations)
Research:
- Lead on the execution of our internal research activities including the development and dissemination of our Status of African Women in Research and our Emerging Research Trends for Africa reports.
- In partnership with our Communications Team, ensure that our research findings inform the content creation of all our public outputs (The Institute’s Ideas outputs, blogs, Op-Eds, external media engagements).
Alumni Network:
- Develop a sustainable model for alumni engagement and provide direction on the overall management of our growing alumni network, the Institute’s Connects Network, including identifying best practices for keeping the network engaged and ensuring we are able to continue to provide meaningful support and opportunities for engagements as the network grows.
- Lead on the disbursement and management of the Connects Fund, a funding facility that provides funding support to our alumni.
Providing support to the Tech Lead and the Voices Team in managing the Connects Network platform.
Operational Support:
Contribute to the strengthening of the Institute’s work culture and optimisation of how we deliver our programming by identifying areas requiring improvement and providing clear and timely feedback to the Senior
Leadership.
Provide support to our Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Lead to develop and implement metrics for evaluating the success of the programme and its impact on public discourse and policy in Africa.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Communications, Journalism, Public Policy, International Relations, Development Studies, or Social / Physical Sciences.
- At least 5 years post-graduation experience in a similar role, preferably in public engagement, science communication, research, or programme management at a non-profit/NGO, research institution, institution of higher learning, development agency, consultancy, or think tank.
- Intermediate or strong proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Demonstrated ability to write research reports, assess and edit analytical reports, policy recommendations, and commentaries.
- Research skills, including familiarity with research repositories and databases (e.g. Google Scholar, ERIC, etc.) and reference management tools (such as Zotero, EndNote, etc.).
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency in French or Portuguese would be an added advantage.
