January 29th, 2025 – June 2nd, 2025 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Milliken Mills Pool 7600 Kennedy Road, Markham, ON

Teachers will be paid 113 hours, which includes all pool instruction, face-to-face instruction and online instruction.

The Aquatic Leadership Program is a joint venture between the York Catholic District School Board and the Town of Markham. The qualified teacher will deliver the Grade 10 Healthy Living and Aquatic Activities Open – PAQ2O course, while preparing students to acquire their Lifesaving Society’s Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross and Standard First Aid with CPR-C. Course expectations will be assessed and evaluated using the Lifesaving Society’s evaluation criteria and the Ontario Ministry of Education expectations. An examiner from the Lifesaving Society will evaluate the aquatic skills required for aquatic certifications.

The course will use a blended learning format consisting of pool instruction, face-to-face instruction and online instruction.

Depending on enrollment, pool instruction and face-to-face instruction will occur on Mondays and Wednesdays from January 29th, 2025 to June 2nd, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Milliken Mills Community Centre Pool. There will be one online Saturday class from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on April 12th, 2025. Teachers are expected to attend onboarding and staff meetings via Google Meet from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on February 11th, 2025, April 1st, 2025, and May 27th, 2025.

Please Note: Teachers must also be available for all pool, face-to-face and online sessions. The successful candidate must complete facility staff training as required by the Ontario Public Pool Association.

Required Qualifications/Experience

  • Religious Education, Part 1 (or equivalent)
  • Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers
  • Intermediate Physical and Health Education qualifications
  • Standard First Aid
  • Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross
  • Lifesaving Society Instructor and Examiner (Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross)
  • Lifesaving Society Standard First Aid, Instructor and Examiner

Major Responsibilities

  • Designing, planning, implementing, and evaluation of curriculum/program.
  • Teaching Healthy Living and Aquatic Activities Grade 10 Open – PAQ2O, Lifesaving Society’s Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross and Standard First Aid with CPR-C.
  • Developing and maintaining an equitable and inclusive learning environment.
  • Knowledge of D2L to deliver online curriculum
  • Collecting and reporting of student achievement data.
  • Maintaining a safe school/class (face-to-face, pool and online) environment.
  • Ongoing communication with staff and parents/guardians.
  • Supervision of students as assigned.
