Kenya Power Announces Power Interruptions in 9 Counties (Wednesday, 11th September 2024)
Power outages occur when the distribution of electricity to users is interrupted
The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced the areas that will experience planned power interruptions today, Wednesday, September 10, 2024.
According to KPLC, the national utility operating most of Kenya’s electricity transmission and distribution, nine counties will face power outages: These are Nairobi, Kisii, Migori, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Embu, Garissa and Homa Bay counties.
In a power interruption notice posted on its social media accounts, the following are the precise areas that will be affected by power outages in the mentioned counties;
1. Nairobi County:
From 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, parts of ICIPE Road, AIC Kasarani, KISE, Bamboo Estate, Mountain Mall, Blue Spring Hotel, Claret, Quiver, School Lane, Bank of Africa, Lions Place, Muguga Green, State House Road, a part of Arboretum Drive, Riverside Drive, Riverside Gardens, UoN Chiromo Campus, Dusit D2, Chiromo Mortuary, Prime Bank, a part of Ring Road and Ring Road Kileleshwa, Westlands, Chiromo University Hostels, Royal Apartments, Kolobot Drive, Taj Apartments, Confucius Institute, Delta Riverside, The Office Park, Mzima Springs Road, 9th Riverside, One Riverside Drive and International Organization for Migration.
The areas of Keystone Park, Riverside Paddocks, Riverside Lane, Gem Suits, Strathmore School, Mundari Kindergarten, Part of Tende Drive, Millennium Apartments, Riverside Mews, German Embassy, Uganda High Commission, Ibury Lounge, Riverside West Lane, Mamlaka Road, St. Andrews Church, Part of University of Nairobi, YWCA., Alico House, Nairobi Water, Serena Hotel, Nairobi Primary, St. Paul Chapel, Inside State House, UoN Residence Halls, State House Girls, UoN Staff Clinic and Radisson Blue Hotel will also be affected at the same time.
2. Kisii County:
From 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Nyamarambe Town, Nduru Boys, Nduru Girls, Gesonso, Nyakembene, Matangamano, Emesa, Nyabigena, Mochengo and Nyamarambe Level 4 Hospital.
3. Migori County:
From 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Migori airstrip, KEFRI, Nyanchabo, Masaba, Nyamamagagana, Kurutyange, Ikerege, Tarawiti, Koego, Kyametaburo, Nyamaranya, Karosi, Kehancha Town, St. Kizito, Maeta, Kegonga, Igena, Nyabikongori, Kebarisia, Mosweto, Nyamutiro, Kebaroti, Makararangwe, and Ntimaru.
4. Nyeri County:
From 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Karura Market, Karura C/Fact, Karura Primary School, Eng. Maina, Gathumbi Village, Part of Unjiru Village, Ngari Junior Village, Ragati Primary School, Ragati Secondary School, Iharu Village, Gikumbo Market, Kiandara Village, Gathambo TBC, Gaturumo-Ini TBC, Kiamigwi Village, Shauri Moyo, Kihuro Village, Gaikuyu Market and Magutu Secondary School.
5. Kirinyaga County:
From 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Kinyaga, Blessed Almano Highcrest, Maya Hotel and Market, Rubis, Sagana Town, Kandongu Market and Kagio Market.
6. Laikipia County:
From 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM, the whole Chumvi area, Oltasha, Doldol Market, Olkinyei, Kiwanja Ndege, Illipollei, Kimanjo and Ol-Donyiro.
7. Embu County:
From 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Runyenjes Town, Runyenjes Hospital, DC’s Office, Runyenjes Police Station, Moi Mbiruri School, Nthangaiya Mission, KCC Runyenjes, Kagaari Farmers, Kigaa C/Fact, Kianguchu C/Fact, Gikuuri Market, Ugweri Market, Ngeniari Market, and Nduuri Market.
8. Garissa County:
From 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, parts of Garissa Town, Provincial Headquarters, Police Headquarters, Governor’s Office, KBC, Madogo and Bangale.
9. Homa Bay County:
From 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the areas around Obera Boys, Kanyangasi, Magina Girls, and Lwanda Kawuor will face planned power outages.
Power outages occur when the distribution of electricity to users is interrupted. KPLC says that it is necessary to address grid reliability issues to boost electric supply in the local distribution system network that delivers electricity to residential buildings and homes in the affected regions, as well as support transmission expansion projects.
